Chow Chows d'Heilung-Kiang

Heilung-Kiang is a small Chow Chow kennel run by all the family with passion - Marina and Daniel MONCLUS, married for now 10 years, with their 4 children.

We are living in Lot et Garonne(47), Agen's area, 150km far from Bordeaux and Toulouse. Our kennel is in Pailloles, between Cancon and Casseneuil, in the countryside.

This is offering a nice place to our dogs. Thus, they are free to move freely on our land - 1ha5 - and they are living indoors with us.

We fell in love with the Breed many many years ago, although our first Chow was purchased in 2001. Now several others have joined the family. Smitten with the Breed, we are wishing to contribute to its improvement by raising well socialized quality puppies.
So we have always been members of the Chow-Chow Club Français.

A little of History...

The Chow Chow has been discovered in the 13th century by Marco Polo. In the 18th century, he arrived in Europe. A chinese emperor offered the Queen of England a specimen called Chow VIII ; It's him who inspired the very first Standard of the Breed. The Chow Chow belongs to the Group 5 (FCI) or Utility Group (UK). The coat is either smooth or rough - Whole coloured Black, blue, red, fawn, cream or white, frequently shaded but not in patches or parti-coloured (underpart of tail and back of thighs frequently of a lighter colour).

The Chow is active, compact, short-coupled and essentially well-balanced, leonine in appearance, proud, dignified bearing ; well knit frame ; tail carried over back. His temperament is independent, loyal and yet aloof. He is a good guard and usually a quiet dog.

Do you know where have they got their blue tongue...?

A monk lived with a lot of animals and one day, he was so sill he could not go looking for some wood. His Chows went for him. In the forrest, there had been a fire so plenty of coal had remained on the floor. The Chows picked the wood and coal with their mouth and came back home. Their mouth and tongue kept this black-bluish typical colour eversince.
